Dr. Hugh P. Barton, 69, died April 12, 1956, in Chicago in his office at 7203 South Ashland Ave., he lived at the same address. He had been a physician for 46 years.
He was born in Volga, Iowa, October 23, 1886. He graduated from Volga high school in 1903, and taught school for two years. He attended Iowa University Medical school in 1906, and graduated from Northwestern Medical school in 1910. He began practicing in Davenport that year.
Dr. Barton spent two and one-half years as captain in the Medical Corps in World War I.
Dr. Barton's funeral was held April 16 in Elkader, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. Gorman officiating. Burial was in the Cox Creek cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas and Ray, a sister, Addie Barton, all of Elkader, and nieces and nephews in Chicago, Ill., and Elkader.
Pallbearers were: Gerald Feeney, Leo Roach, Clarence Neylan, Mie Hurley, Edward Steffen and N. J. Finnegan.
Relatives and friends attending from away were: Paul Corkery, James Corkery, Mary Corkery, Charles Barton, Thomas Barton Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rysdon, and Joe McIntyre, all from Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Helen Stoops and family, Oelwein; Richard Corkery and sisters, Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Corkery, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Corkery, Fairbank; Dan Raftis and Frank Prues, Oelwein; Mrs. Libby Tenney and Hugh, R. C. Duff, Verner Blake, Louis White, Volga; Mrs. Alta Shaw, Guttenberg; Dr. Leon Molomby, West Union, and Miss Joan Barton, Chatfield, Minn.
