Mrs. Emma Rose Behning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Witt, was born August 20, 1897, at Ryan, Iowa, and died at her farm home near Farmersburg, March 28, 1956, of a heart attack.
She was united in marriage to Fred Behning on Dec. 18, 1919, at Ryan, Iowa, and they first lived at Manchester, later moving to Delhi, and in 1939, they moved to a farm six miles east of Garber. In 1954, they moved to their present home, a farm one quarter of a mile west of Farmersburg.
Mrs. Behning was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband and two sons, Francis of St. Olaf, and Darrell of Strawberry Point; three grandchildren, Terry Behning, Allen and Darwin Behning; three brothers, Paul Witt of Manchester, Leo Witt of Ryan, Carl Witt of Bellevue, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Regan of Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran church of Farmersburg, with the Rev. R. H. Steege officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Harland Kutzbach, Herb Zurcher, John Bossard, Hale Corlett Jr., Robert Corlett and Roy Eggers.
Relatives who attended from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Witt, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Golietz Regan, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Witt, Bellevue; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heins, Max Behning, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Behning, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Behning, Coggon, and Mr. and Mrs. Dee Ryan, Strawberry Point.
