The death of Mrs. C. S. Adams, 94, occurred Wednesday, April 04, 1956, at 2:30 p.m. at Finley hospital in Dubuque, following a five weeks' illness.
As Emma Crain, she was born at Volga, May 23, 1861, the daughter of James and Harriet Crain, and as a young girl resided on the Crain farm in Sperry township two and one-half miles east of Volga.
On May 12, 1880, she was united in marriage to Charles Sumner Adams. For a time they resided at West Union and Dubuque. The greatest share of her life, she resided in Volga, where her husband was in partnership in the Adams-White general merchandise business. Mr. Adams died in 191_. Mrs. Adams continued her residence in Volga until 1944, when she went to Dubuque to make her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Will Adams.
Besides her son Will in Dubuque, she is survived by a son Shubael Pratt Adams of Detroit, Mich., three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clara White of Oelwein, and a half-brother, Delos J. Crain of Volga.
Two daughters also preceded her in death, Edna in 1943, and Harriet in infancy.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Egelhof funeral home in Dubuque to the Presbyterian church in Volga, where the Rev. Strand of Dubuque conducted the last rites at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
Casket bearers were: J. Walter Roys, Glen Moats, Roberto Hines, Wm. Moore, Fred Gerand and Herman Baars.
Mrs. W. K. Oldfather, pianist, Peggy Robinson and Mrs. Oliver Follon provided the music.
Among the relatives and friends present at the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Shubael Adams, Detroit; Will J. Adams, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Howard White, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. R. N. Goeschel, Dubuque; Mrs. Cecel Sherman, Mrs. Ruth Bartels, Mrs. Park Shreve and Shubael White, Oelwein; Mrs. Erma Smith, Clarion; Mrs. C. R. Jacobson, Galt; Mrs. Charlotte Schnathorst, Haverhill; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. White and family, Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Welch, Elgin; Mrs. L. A. Blake, Mr. and Mrs. James Shaw, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Perry Medberry, Elgin.
