Mrs. Anna M. Witte, the daughter of William and Marie Tewes, was born May 13, 1873, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Klinkenberg, early Friday morning at the age of eighty-two years, ten months and three days.
Mrs. Witte spent her entire life in Clayton county. She received her education in the rural school and was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center. After moving to Elkader in the year 1898, she became a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed church.
About five years ago she gave up her home in Elkader and from that time on made her home either with her son Harvey, or her daughter Lucy. She became ill at the home of her daughter three weeks ago and became steadily weaker until her death.
In 1891, she was united in marriage to George F. Witte, who preceded her in death in 1915; also two daughters, Eunice at the age of eleven, and Hanna at the age of eighteen.
She is survived by one daughter, Lucy, Mrs. Carl Klinkenberg of St. Olaf, and one son, Harvey of Elkader, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 18, at Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. Burial was in East Side cemetery with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
Pallbearers were: Carl Lenth, Albert Breitsprecher, Don Tieden, Don Buckman, Harold Dahl and Marvin Klinkenberg.
