Frances D. Scullen, the daughter of J. J. and Mary J. Ehrhardt Kuehl was born August 26, 1904, at Elkader, Iowa, and died in the hospital at Kansas City, Mo., March 13, 1956, at the age of fifty-one years, six months and seventeen days.

Mrs. Scullen died of cancer, but was not aware of her serious ailment until two weeks before her death. Up to that time she was active not only in her home but took part in many civic activities.

The deceased maintained her membership in the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church. She was chairman of the Pittsburg, Kansas, Red Cross and Bloodmobile Drive. She was also one of the Red Cross Gray Ladies for six years, and group chairman of the United Fund Drive.

She was united in marriage to Merrill R. Scullen on Feb. 04, 1924, at Dubuque, Iowa. Two children were born to this union; Lloyd Ralph, who died in infancy and Bonnie L., Mrs. Jack Hart of Springfield, Mo.

For the past ten years, the Scullens made their home in Pittsburg, Kansas. Because of the type of work her husband chose, that of construction, and her desire to be with him she lived at various times in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas and New Mexico.

She is survived by her husband Merrill, her daughter Bonnie and her husband, Jack, and two grandchildren, Debbie and Nancy Hart. Also the following brothers and sisters: George Kuehl, Carrie, Mrs. Charles Reimer; Marie, Mrs. Herman Reimer; Fred Kuehl, Kate, Mrs. Henry Baars; Hilda, Mrs. Leo Keleher; Louise, Mrs. Milton Klink; Mildred, Mrs. M. C. Stoops, all of Elkader.

Services were held Saturday, March 17, at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the East Side cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.

Pallbearers were: Milton Reimer, Haldon Reimer, Ralph Kuehl, Howard Kuehl, Delbert Baars and Duane Klink.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services are: Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Scullen, Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. George Juhl, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meusel, Charles Cit; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Opsall, Wykoff, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jarland, Harmony, Minn.; Miss Elaine Bacon, Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schrader and Mr. and Mrs. Himebaugh of Monticello.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ehrhardt, and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Kregel, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reimer, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Dohrer, Jackson Junction; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rinkert, Volga; Miss Louise Liers, Clayton; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Orth, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schrader, and Mrs. Archie Hohman of Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kuehl, Littleport; Mr. and Mrs. John Kuehl, Elkport.
