In the passing of Frank W. Ames there is removed from this locality one who has won the respect of those who knew him an upright man; ambitious, and true.

Frank W. Ames was the son of Alphonso and Mathilda Wheeler Ames and was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, on August 23, 1856.

In 1872 he came with his father and step-mother to Iowa and the family settled near Monona. On June 21, 1879, he united in marriage with Allie Wilcox.

The couple went to housekeeping in Floyd Co. and after about six years moved to the vicinity of Hardin where they lived together until the death of Mrs. Ames on February 25, 1932.

One daughter was born to them.

In 1901 Mr. Ames purchased the place which has been his home until the time o his death. He enjoyed good health and enjoyed life.

Last spring he was taken ill, and suffered several attacks since that time, the last occurring on Saturday morning, October 30th, from which he did not recover. He was 81 years of age.

Relatives remaining are his daughter Edna, Mrs. M.E. Smith, of Luana; and one brother, George Ames, of Castlewood, So. Dak.

Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday, November 2, 1937, conducted by Rev. George W. Turner. Two numbers were sung by Mrs. Turner, "Going down the valley" and "Sweet bye and bye". Interment at Hardin cemetery.

Porter Jones, Colby Jones, Lloyd Pearson, Chester Pearson, Louis Christofferson and Frank Miller, acted as pall-bearers. Funeral arrangements in the hands of Mr. Schutte, of Postville.
