August Edwin Carl Fehlhafer was born in Clayton County, Iowa, January 28, 1871. On April 23, 1871, he was baptized in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, by the Rev. J. B. Erbens. He was confirmed in the Lutheran christian faith by the Rev. F. Somerlad in the church of his baptism April 25, 1886, and remained an active and faithful member of this church until his death.

Mr. Fehlhafer and Miss Emma Jost were united in marriage May 29, 1900. This union was blessed by one son, Leslie.

Following the death of his first wife in 1903, Mr. Fehlhafer and Miss Linda Alt were united in marriage April 26, 1905. This union was blessed by three sons, Alto, Clarence and Verni.

Throughout his long life the deceased lived and farmed in Clayton County. During his last years he made his home with his son Alto. At the time of his death he was a patient in the Community hospital at McGregor. Following a very long and fruitful life of service to his Lord, his family, and to others, Mr. Fehlhafer died at 7 a.m., Monday, June 30, 1958, attaining the very advanced age of 87 years, 5 months and 2 days.

In addition to his first wife Mr. Fehlhafer was preceded in death by his second wife who died in 1934, and by four brothers and sisters. He is survived by sons, Leslie, Eyota, Minn.; Alto, Farmersburg; Clarence, McGregor, and Verni, Springville, Iowa, four grandsons, four granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 02, 1958, in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, with interment in the new Garnavillo cemetery. The Rev. L. C. Urlaub was the officiating pastor.
