Chase, Willis Everett 1879 - 1958

Volga City: Willis Everett Chase, son of John and Mary Conrad Chase, was born near Maynard, Iowa, November 30, 1879, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Nickels, Wednesday, July 02, 1958, where he had been cared for since March 29. He reached the age of 78 years, 7 months and 2 days. Mr. Chase had been in failing health for several years.

He was married to Lizzie Meyer September 09, 1903, at Randalia. They moved to the Volga area in 1912, where they have since farmed.

Survivors are his widow and several children, four sons; Lester, Floyd, Elmer and Ralph, all of Volga; three daughters; Mrs. George (Bernice) Nickels, Mrs. William (Inez) Christen and Mrs. James (Rose Ella) Hermen, all of Elgin; 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jesse, a sister Frances, three grandchildren, Lois Jane and Everett Eugene Nickels and Kenneth Everett Chase.

Mr. Chase was a member of the board of the Volga Methodist church and for several years served as trustee in Sperry township.

Services were held in the Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Alfred Christensen, pastor, officiating. The Rev. J. W. Bearse of Cedar Falls, former Volga pastor, delivered the sermon.

Mrs. Wallace Oldfather, organist, accompanied the vocalists, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Whitford. Mrs. Richard Jones and Mrs. Lera Robinson arranged the floral tributes.

Bearers were Lawrence Hulverson, Erwin Baumgartner, Allen Robinson, Lye Jennings, Richard Jones, Volga, and Lyle Lamphier of Randalia.
