Funeral services for Mrs. Estella Goodsell Stence, 81, were held Monday morning, at 9 at St. Joseph's Church in Elkader. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery. The Rev. T. F. Wallace of Ridgley, Wis., officiated at the services. In the sanctuary were the Rev. Loras Holmberg of Delhi and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. Gorman of Elkader.
Mrs. Stence died Saturday, June 21, at St. Anthony's home in Dubuque, where she had lived for the past seven years.
Born at Elkport on May 18, 1877, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Goodsell. She taught school for about 30 years. In 1910 she was married to Michael Stence at Elkport. The couple farmed in Cox Creek township until 1920 when they moved to Elkport. Following her husband's death 12 years ago, Mrs. Stence moved to Dubuque.
Survivors are three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary O'Brien, Mrs. Catherine Crary and Mrs. Anna Wiley, nieces and nephews including a niece, Sister Mary Columbia, of Chicago.
Pallbearers were Leo Keleher, Leo Boland, Matt Feeney and Harold Downey.
