DIED - At McGregor, on Monday, Sept. 7th, 1863, at 9 1/2 o'clock evening, Joseph Ladd, aged 32 years.
The deceased was born in Biddeford, Maine. Several years since he came west and settled in La Crosse. He subsequently removed to McGregor, where he lived until the Great Teacher, Death, called him to that silent sleep which awaits all humanity.
Of a sickness was what is popularly called "heart-disease." For several weeks he has borne the pain of a mortal attack with the patience of a child. The closest attention of physicians and friends evoked the gratitude on the dying man, but all remedies were unavailing. He leaves a wife and infant daughter here to mourn his early death.
Joseph Ladd was one of the kindest men we ever [illegible]. Steady, quiet, unassuming and always gentlemanly, he made friends of al acquaintances; many sad hearts in McGregor attest the esteem in which he was held here.
The body was sent on Tuesday at 3 o'clock to Boston, the home of his parents, for burial. Mr. Plummer, the brother-in-law of the deceased, accompanied it.
