Frederick K. Orvis, 81, long-time St. Olaf resident, died at the home of his son, Floyd, Sunday night. He had been ill a year and five months; and had been confined to his bed for the last five months.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Norway Lutheran church with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating.
Mr. Orvis had been station agent for the Milwaukee railroad at St. Olaf since 1892. He organized the Farmers State Bank in St. Olaf in 1914 and served as cashier from its organization until July 01, 1950, when he resigned because of ill health.
Frederick K. Orvis, son of Waitsell and Harriet (Banker) Orvis, was born February 08, 1870, on a farm near Sycamore, Ill. When he ten years of age, the family moved to Manchester, Iowa, where they purchased a farm. As a young man, he became interested in railroad service. After attending a school of railroad accounting and telegraph at Janesville, Wis., he was appointed agent for the Milwaukee road at Whittemore, Iowa, ha applied for and was awarded the agency at St. Olaf during the year 1892.
On Feb. 05, 1893, he was married to Mary Embretson and they made their home in St. Olaf the rest of their lives.
In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Orvis observed their 57th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by one son, Floyd, of St. Olaf, and one daughter, Allison, of Rockford, Iowa. His wife and daughter, Vivian, his parents and three brothers preceded him in death.
