Funeral services for Joseph W. Curran, 63, were held at St. Joseph church, Elkader, at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, Dec. 11. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mr. Curran died at the University hospital at Iowa City Saturday, Dec. 08, where he had been taken as a patient that morning. He had been in ailing health for the past five years. Death was due to a heart condition.
Joseph W. Curran was born in Volga township near Elkport Nov. 04, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Curran. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. He was married to Clara Frey of Clayton, who preceded him in death as did two children, Mrs. Cletus (Mildred) Behrns of Harpers Ferry, who died four years ago, and a son who died in infancy.
On Jan. 23, 1943, he was married at Beloit, Wis., to Rose Schultz, who survives him.
He was a member of St. Joseph's church, Elkader.
Surviving him besides his wife are four grandsons, four brothers, Edmund of Elkader, William of Monona, Clem of Spokane, Wash., and Thomas of Seattle, Wash., together with three sisters, Mrs. Ed Berns of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Walter Westmark of Dubuque, and Mrs. Bernie Bowman of Vallejo, Calif.
Two sisters, Mrs. Frank Meyer of Guttenberg and Mrs. Bernard Fitzpatrick of Greeley, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were George Meyer, Charles Hader, Frank Scheffert, Realto Berns, Allison Buchheim, and William Roach.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Ed Berns, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Westmark, Kermit Boehm, Mrs. Harry Boehm, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Noggle, Dubuque; Cletus Behrns and four sons, Harpers Ferry.
