The funeral services for Charles Nichols, whose death occurred at his home in Elkader on Wednesday afternoon, November 5th, were held Saturday afternoon, November 8th, conducted by the Rev. Chas. T. Brewster. Brief services were held at the home after which public services were held at the Elkader Congregational church. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Charles Nichols was born in Boardman township near Elkader on September 30th, 1875. His parents were Adeline and Robert _____ Nichols. While just a young man a severe illness left him with a valvular leakage of the heart, which troubled him more or less all his life. He started to learn the carpenter trade but the work was too heavy and about 18__ he started to learn the printer's trade on the Elkader Argus, then published by T. M. and W. W. Davidson. Later he worked for brief periods at Waukon, at Ossian, and perhaps other places, but most of his life was spent in Elkader. He was foreman and ___ ________ on the Clayton County Democrat for many years and held a similar position with the Register from September, 1921, and he was taken sick on October _th.

On December 30th, 1905, he was married to Miss Anna Oehrle of Volga township, who survives him with one son, Lawrence, and three daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Nichols Fascher, Mary and Helen. He is also survived by his father, Robert ____ Nichols, a sister, Mrs. W. W. _______ of G_____, S.D., and two brothers, Jesse Nichols of Oakland, Calif., and J___ Nichols of Minneapolis, Minn.

Charles Nichols was a man of high character, a _________ and faithful employee, a good husband and father, a good citizen. The large attendance at the public services, the beautiful floral tributes and the saddened count____ of those present signified the sincere regard and respect held for him, not only by his associates but the entire community. His was a useful life well spent.
