Bernice Beryl Hansel, daughter of Japen and Dora (Feidt) Hansel, was born May 27th, 1909, on the farm near Garber, Iowa

God called her from this earth on Feb. 23rd, 1923, thus bringing her age to 13 years, 8 months, and 26 days, at the time of her demise.

Berice is the third petal torn from the family-flower by the reaper, death, a son, Ernest and a daughter, Edna, having preceded her beyond this vale of tears. Her gentle ways and happy, cheerful disposition endeared her to her loved ones, to her schoolmates and teachers and to all who came in contact with her.

Only a few short days ago, her happy voice blended with others in songs of church and school.

Little did they think, that ere two short weeks had past, Bernice would have joined the angelic hosts.

Tis but a step, we know not how soon, until all will be gathered so that the three jewels, now gone before, may be set in an unbroken circle around the throne on high.

Those left to mourn her loss are her grief stricken parents, the children, Clara, Ruth, Roy, Loyd, Clifford, Japen Jr., and Francis, with many friends.

Sweet by thy rest, dear Bernice,
Short though thy life was to be.
Yet it did fill us with gladness,
Whene'r thy face we did see.

Short was thy sufferings too, dear,
And God loved thee best.
Now with they sister and brother
Thou has entered into rest.

Sweet was the smile, and happy,
The look on thy face.
Now nevermore may suffering
Its lines upon thee trace.

Soon, ah, how soon we know not,
As God wills, all will be
A happy united family,
When we one another shall see.

The funeral service was held at the residence with a goodly attendance, on Monday, Feb. 26th at 1 p.m. Rev. F. L. Brock, officiating.

The music was furnished by the pastor and wife.

Interment was made in the Hansel Cemetery.
