After an illness lasting one month, due to paralysis, John Meenan, a long time resident of Communia, passed away at his home there on Wednesday, June 26.
He was born in Hanover, Germany, Dec. 27, 1842, and came to America and Clayton county with his parents when he was thirteen years of age. He has since lived in the same community following the occupation of farming all his life, marrying Wilhelmine Will on Dec. 9, 1886.
The children born to this union were five, all of whom survive him, with the wife. They are Ferdinand and George, at home; Mrs. Anna Tackman, near Clayton, Mrs. Margaret Tackman, also of near Clayton, and Mrs. Ernestine Funk, of Cox Creek township. Three grandchildren also mourn his death.
The funeral was held at one o'clock p.m., June 29, at the home, Rev. C. H. Franke of Elkader, officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Communia.
