Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 June 1918. Volga column.

Ellen Sloan was born in Highland township, Sept. 29, 1859, and died at her home in Volga June 14, 1918, aged 58 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Miss Sloan grew up to womanhood in the Highland home, and has continued a member of the home circle to the end.

About thirteen years ago the family moved to Volga, and two years later the two sisters, Ellen and Tena, were left to keep house together.

In her early girlhood, Ellen united with the United Presbyterian church at Highland. She was an earnest devoted Christian, loyal to her church, and to her Lord, and most regular in her attendance to all the church services.

Miss Sloan was taken seriously sick the beginning of April, and gradually lost strength from the first. She suffered considerable pain at times, but bore it all with a commendable fortitude. Everything that medical skill and loving ministration could do was done, but the final summons could not be denied and the end of mortality came peacefully and quietly, and early on Friday afternoon she "fell asleep' only "to awake in His likeness."

The sorrowing members of the family are Tena and Sam, of Volga; William, of Elgin; Robert, of Littleport; and Mrs. Brown, of Audubon, all of whom were present at the memorial service.

A brief service was held at the home on Sunday at 1:30, followed by a service in the Presbyterian church of Volga. A very large company of friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased. Rev. R. Roberts, of Coggon, preached the sermon. The interment was at Illyria where the parents of the deceased were buried.
