Thomas Hines, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Hines, was born in Illinois, Jan. 15, 1837, and died Feb. 20th, 1918, aged 81 years, 1 month and 5 days.

He was one of a family of nine children, all of whom died several years ago, excepting John and Hiram of this vicinity, and Henry, of Manchester. He was married to Augusta Bensley in 1861. To this union three sons were born, Albert, Edward and William, who, with three brothers and a number of grandchildren will mourn his departure. Mr. Hines has lived on a farm in this vicinity for many years and is well known to the entire community. His funeral was held at the Pleasant Grove church, Feb. 22, the Methodist minister of Edgewood officiating. Interment was made in the Cox Creek cemetery.
