Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 03 May 1917.
George Marion Miller passed away in Elgin, Iowa, early Friday morning, from heart failure. Little is known regarding his life history, as he was the last one left of his immediate family. His age was 61 years. His wife died 13 years ago and his son preceded him five years ago.
Mr. Miller started on Monday morning of last week for Fayette. Before reaching Elgin he sustained an attack of heart trouble. With almost super-human courage he threw himself forward onto the steering wheel and guided the car into Elgin. All medical care and attention was of little avail and on Friday morning he passed away.
His was a life of overwhelming discouragements, yet in the face of all things he was ever cheerful and earnest. For the past four years he has been employed as salesman for the J. A. Briar Monument Works.
His reticence in regard to facts regarding his personal history was due to a fine courage which forbade discussion of his own misfortunes.
His aged mother is living in Denison, Iowa. One brother in Canada and one in Nebraska are the only living relatives. His brother-in-law, Ed Odekirk, of Donnan Junction, was the only relative present at the funeral. Rev. H. Briscoe Hall pronounced the funeral oration in the Congregational church Sunday afternoon at 3:30. The seating capacity of the building was taxed to its utmost. The burial service was in charge of the Masonic order. Interment in the Monona cemetery.
