Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Oct. 1899.

At his home in Wagner twp., on Sept. 29th, 1899, occurred the death of Gilbert Johnson, after a short illness from the Hotchkins disease. He was born Dec. 29th, 1827, at Hadeland, Norway, and came to America in 1850, settling at Karskenang, Wis. He came to Clayton county in 1865 coming to Wagner twp. Here he followed the trade of blacksmithing together with farming. He leaves a wife, one son and six daughters, besides a large circle of friends to mourn his departure. The funeral was held on Saturday last at the Norway church in Wagner, and was largely attended by sorrowing friends. Rev. Mr. Tanner officiated.
