Clayton County Register, Thur., 05 Jan. 1933.
Strawberry Point: Funeral service for Mrs. Ella Mitchell occurred Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. J. Esch, conducted by Rev. Lewis Troyer pastor of the Congregational church. The pallbearers were: Alex Porter, L. D. Davis, C. A. Schoeppe, O. W. Fuehr, G. F. Scofield and C. B. Moser. Interment took place in the family lot of our beautiful cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell, nee Ella Moine, daughter of Maria and Eugene Moine, was born on a farm near Arlington, Oct. 16, 1855. She was the oldest of a family of eleven children, five having preceded her in death.
In 18__ she was united in marriage to George Mitchell. To this union one daughter, Grace, now Mrs. H. J. Esch was born. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell made this place their home until the fall of 1922 when they moved to California, where they lived until Mr. Michell's death Mar. 14, 192_ (looks like 1925 or 1926). Returning to this place she has since made her home with her daughter. During her younger years Mrs. Mitchell was confined a great deal to her home by sickness. She successfully underwent a major operation at the Iowa City hospital but her long years of staying at home remained a fixed habit in her life. She was inclined to be shy and self-conscious, seldom appearing in public, but content always to work and live in her daughter's abode.
In her girlhood days she attended the services in the Christian church at Arlington. Coming to Strawberry Point she associated herself with the Baptist and then the Congregational church.
After a short illness, her heart failed here at 9:15 p.m., Sunday evening, Dec. 25th, 1932. She died while sleeping peacefully, watched over by members of her family and a special nurse, who had been called to help her at the last. Her age at the time of her death was 77 years, two months and nine days. Besides her daughter she is survived by one step-son, Glenn Guy Mitchell and granddaughter, Genevieve Mitchell of Anderson, Calif., and one sister and four brothers: Mrs. Nettie Fitzgibbons, Arlington; Wineld Moine, Pasadena, Calif., Eugene Moine, Farrington, Wyo., Ben and Hall at Arlington.
