Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 21 Jul. 1910. Garnavillo column.

Mrs. Elsa Meyer, nee Peters, was born on January 5th, 1844, in Neehaus, Hanover. In the year 1857, accompanied by her parents, she came to America and settled in Read township.

She was married to Carl Christian Meyer, at Guttenberg, in December, 1859, and in 1874 they settled on the farm near Garnavillo, where they always lived. They were blessed with thirteen children, one of whom preceded the mother in death. Those living are Emma Wirkler, of this place; Henry and Will, of Farmersburg; Helmuth, of Castalia; August, of Wagner twp.; Lizzie Tangeman, of Read twp.; Chas. and Theo., of Garnavillo twp.; Amelia, at home; Mamie Drahn, of Farmersburg; Carrie Meyer, of Farmersburg twp.; and Adelia Foran, of Read twp. Last year Mr. and Mrs. Meyer celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, at which occasion all twelve children were present.

Mrs. Meyer had not been well for some time and last week blood poisoning set in, and on Sunday morning, July 10th, at 2:00 o'clock, she passed away, leaving her husband, twelve children, 25 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 12th, at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment was made in the new cemetery. Deceased was for many years a member of the Frauen Verein, of St. Paul's church, and was well known throughout this entire locality and highly esteemed. This was shown by the large number of people in attendance at the funeral and the many beautiful floral offerings.
