Mrs. Henry Bell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Gordon, at Glendale, California, Friday, September 30, at the age of 79 years, of heart disease.
Mrs. Bell's maiden name was Miss Agnes Brown. She was born at Bridlington, England, Jan. 22, 1842. Was married to Henry Bell, of her home town in 1861.
Nine years later Mr. and Mrs. Bell came to America and settled in Milwaukee, later moving to Boscobel and during the year 1876, moved to McGregor, Iowa. Here they lived and here it was they celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary with a family reunion, and here surrounded by friends they lived until the passing on of [sic] Mr. Bell July 18, 1912*.
Mrs. Bell, with the daughter, Miss Emily moved to Spokane, Wash. to make their home with the daughter, Mrs. Gordon. Less than a year ago with the Gordon family moved to California.
Mrs. Bell had not been in good health for some time and late this summer the daughter, Mrs. F.S. Clinton, went to California and spent some two months with the mother. The passing on comes as a shock at this time. The high tribute of a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a good woman, is given the writer by those that knew her best and loved her much.
The body accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and Miss Emily Bell arrived from California Tuesday, and was taken to the home of the daughter Mrs. F.S. Clinton Wednesday. The burial service will occur at McGregor, where the remains will be laid beside the husband.
The seven children, four boys and three girls, all are living and all were present to pay the last tribute of love: John of Chicago; Robert of Butte, Montana; Richard of Kearney, Neb.; Harold of Council Bluffs, with Mrs. Gordon and Miss Emily Bell of California, and Mrs. F.S. Clinton of this city.
Mrs. Bell was a life log member of the Congregational church and faithful to its every service. Her life thought was for the happiness of home and the things that make for such.
Many expressions of sympathy are extended the family in this sorrow - Crawford County Press, Prairie du Chien.
