On last Thursday evening occurred the death of little Anna Becker at the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boehm. Her death was caused by scarlet fever. Anna was only nine years of age and was a kind and lovable little girl. She was sick but three days and everything that medical aid could do to save her was done but all in vain and on Thursday night she died. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker, Jr. She leaves to mourn her two small brothers, Herman and Clarence, besides other relatives. May she rest in peace!

Annie Becker was born Nov. 26, 1904, in Volga township. It is not always the length of time that we live which causes numerous events to transpire, for into this short time of life many sorrowful hours were crowded, interspersed with joyful ones, which happy childhood brings with it. She was christened when young. Not long after an infant brother was called to the heavenly home. On Nov. 15, 1909, her mother, Rosa Becker, nee Meyer, died and on Oct. 9, 1912, the father, Henry Becker, Jr., also died. This broke up the home, as the step-mother, Mrs. Bertha Becker, nee Wentz, was unable to work the farm with these small children. Consequently, each was given a good home at various homes of relatives.
Little Annie was given a home at Wm. Boehm's, the uncle and aunt. The cares of little children are soon replaced by happy thoughts and so Annie was sent to school and was loved by all who knew her. She possessed a loving disposition and there being only four boys in this family she was loved and cherished all the more. On Jan. 9th at 4 a.m., her soul passed from earth to join the loved ones gone before, although given the best of medical aid of physicians, trained nurse and those of the family who were able to assist, the entire family suffering with the dread disease. At 4 p.m., the same day, the little body, in it's beautiful casket, was taken to the Lutheran cemetery at Elkport, where Rev. Foelsch joined undertakers and spoke the ritual of burial briefly.
The entire community sympathize with the sorrowing ones, as the nearest relatives who are left to mourn that loss are her brothers, Herman and Lester; Ethyl Becker, the little step-sister; three grandparents, Mrs. George Meyer, of Volga township, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker, Sr., of Elkport; her step-mother, Mr. Henry Becker, Jr., Wm. Boehm and family, where she resided, and other aunts, uncles and cousins. Her age at the time of her death was nine years, one month and thirteen days.
(Note: See her gravestone photo on the IGPP. She is buried in Emmanuel cemetery.)
