Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Aug. 1907. Volga City Views columns. From the Ryan Reporter, undated.
The death of Mrs. James McAreavy occurred at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John O'Brien here at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 1_ (13th or 18th). Although her death was not unexpected it came as a shock to her friends nevertheless. She had been ill for some time with that dread malady consumption, and it finally called her away from this cruel world to take up her abode in Heaven. Katie O'Brien was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John O'Brien and was born at Volga City, Iowa, July 10, 1876, leaving her 31 years of age at the time of her death. About eight years ago she was united in marriage to James McAreavy and five little children, two boys and three girls, are deprived of a mother's loving care. The deceased was a kindhearted noble woman, and was always on the alert to give the best care to her family of little ones. Throughout her long illness she bore her suffering with patience and seemed resigned to the will of God. A good wife, a loving mother and a true friend has been called to her reward. The funeral was held this afternoon, from the Belmont church, and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Leahy, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church. The bereaved relatives and especially the little children have the sympathy of a host of friends. - Ryan Reporter.
