Margaret Hunter was born March 1st, 1826, in Alleghany county, Penn. She was united in marriage with David Settlemire Nov. 18th, 1852. With her husband and infant son she moved to Grant county, Wis., in 1853, and to Fayette Co., Iowa, in 1857. In 1863 she came to Clayton Co., where she resided until January, 1907, when she moved to Wadena, where she died at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17th, 1907, aged 80 years, 11 months and 17 days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Oldfather, with whom she had lived since the death of her husband, which occurred July 2nd, 1901, receiving the loving care of a dutiful and affectionate daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Settlemire was the mother of three sons and three daughters, one son dying in early infancy and two daughters in early womanhood. The two remaining sons, Jefferson and Addison, are extensive farmers, living in Audubon county, Iowa. She also leaves an only brother aged __ Looks like 96) years in Pennsylvania, one sister, Mrs. Waltenbaugh, of Volga City, and eleven grandchildren. Mrs. Settlemire was converted in early life, uniting with the United Brethren church. In 18_2 (looks like 1892) she was Immersed and united with the Christian church, of which she lived a faithful follower of the meek and lowly Saviour until her departure. She had no fears of death, often expressing a wish to go to her Saviour and loved ones that had gone before. Funeral was held in the M.E. church at Volga, on Feb. 19th, Rev. Shoemacher officiating. Burial in Volga cemetery beside her late husband.
