August Henry Thiese was born in Schnerin, Hanover, Germany, on July 31st, 1842, and died at his home in this city on Thursday morning, January 6th, 1916, at 5 o'clock, a'ter a few days illness, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 5 days. In the year 1867 he came to the United States, settling at Guttenberg, where he lived until his death. On August 24th, 1870, he was married at Guttenberg to Miss Minnie Wehrkamp. He was an ambitious man during his entire life, and was a kind and true husband and father. His death is deeply mourned by his aged wife, three sons, John of Garnavillo; Herman, of Elkader; and William, of Montana; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Froelich, of Guttenberg, and a large number of relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at his home, Sunday afternoon, Rev. K. W. Braun, of Garnavillo, officiating. Interment was made in the City Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends.
