Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Oct. 1911. Strawberry Point column.
After suffering from a paralytic stroke from which she did not regain consciousness, Mrs. Electa Jane Hale passed from the land of time into the eternity to be, Saturday, Oct. 14, 1911, at the advanced age of 82 years, 1 month and 19 days. Her birthplace was in the state of Maine. From the date of her birth (Aug. 25, 1829) until the early spring of 1856 she resided in her native state. That spring she came to Illinois, where on March 13, of the same year, she was united in marriage to Bixby A. Hale, at Ottawa, in said state. Soon thereafter the husband and wife came to Iowa and settled in Clayton County, which place has been the constant home of the deceased. Sept. 13, 1893, the husband and companion was called from labor to reward. Since then grandma Hale has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Addie Little, of this city. Four children blessed her married life: Mrs. Ida Hughes, of this city; Edwin Hale, of Dresbach, Minn.; Elwin Hale, of Kingfisher, Okla.; and Mrs. Addie Little, of this city. These together with 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends mourn her departure. Rev. ____, of Fayette, assisted by the Rev. W. S. Sylvester, of the Methodist church, conducted the services. Interment was made in the family lot in our beautiful cemetery.
