August Beyer, a former resident of Clayton Center, passed away at his home in Giard, August 19, 1926, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 12 days.
He was born on November 1, 1853, in (looks like Wintengen) Hanover, Germany. In 1879 he came to this country locating at Giard, Clayton county. November 18, 1893, he was married to Maria Rohn. They lived at Clayton Center seven years, five years at Elgin and twenty years at Postville. In 1925 they moved to their present home in Giard. Mr. Beyer was in poor health for quite a number of years, and weakened for many years by heart disease. He is survived by his widow and eight children: Mrs. Ella Markham, Bloomington, Wis.; Wm. Beyer at home; Mrs. Hilda Jensen, Kenyon, Minn.; Alfred Beyer at home; Mrs. Celia Clayton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Miss Bertha Beyer at home; Rudolph Beyer at home; several grandchildren, one brother, Fred Beyer of Elkader.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Giard M.E. church by Rev. J. L. (looks like Menzner), burial at Elgin, Iowa.
