Mrs. Catherine Hyde died at her home near Elkader Friday, Oct. 14, of old age after an illness of about one week.
Mrs. Hyde was born May 8th, 1839, in Wexford, Ireland, the daughter of Tobias and Mary Kelleher and received her education in New York City.
In December, 1860, she was married here in Elkader to Patrick Hyde and to this union nine children were born, namely: James, Mary, John, Tom, Joseph, William, Catherine, Anna and Leo.
Six of her children survive her, James, John, Thomas, Joseph, Anna and Leo, all of Elkader. She came to this county when a girl of 12 years, but from 1886 to 1898 she resided in Hill City, Kansas, later returning to Elkader.
She was a faithful member of the Catholic church and was buried from St. Joseph's church here last Sunday morning with the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
