A number of Guttenberg people were at Clayton Sunday afternoon where they attended the funeral of James McGuire, who died suddenly of heart trouble at his home at Clayton Friday morning. Deceased was born in Clayton township, this county, on June 22, 1857, where he spent his entire life. He was past 74 years old. For a time he lived on a farm. He held various town and township offices successfully during life. Mr. McGuire never married. His death is deeply mourned by five sisters, two brothers and numerous other relatives and friends who will all sadly miss him. Funeral services were held at his late home at Clayton on Sunday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the Garnavillo cemetery. Mr. McGuire was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, the members of which attended the funeral in a body.
