Mrs. Matilda Hill, nee Stone, was born Sept. 8, 1822, at Linkland, Chenango Co., N.Y., and was married to James Hill, Sept. 12th, 1842, at that place. From there she moved to Clayton Co., where she lived for 46 years. She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. D. Haven, of McGregor, where she resided since the death of her husband. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. D. Haven, of McGregor, and one brother, H. A. Stone, of St. Olaf, to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held in the First Congregational church at Elkader, Nov. 12, 1901, conducted by Rev. Baxter.

Mrs. Matilda Hill died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jas. DeHaven, aged 81 years. The remains were taken to Elkader, Tuesday, to be interred beside her husband. She belonged to one of the oldest families in the county and is survived by her daughter.
