Margaret R. Cain of this place died at the home of her mother here last Friday afternoon at 3:30, following an illness of about three and one-half months.
Margaret Rita Cain was born on a farm in Boardman township, this county, October 23, 1896, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Cain. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 39 years, one month and 12 days.
In 1912 the deceased left the farm with her parents and settled, with them, here in Elkader. She received her early education in the rural school near her home and later attended St. Joseph's parochial school. After completing her school work here she went to Dubuque where she attended Bayless Business college and Clarke college. After completing her school work she taught for some time in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois, but about four years ago she accepted a position in the office of County Superintendent Mary A. Meyer, where she labored until ill heath forced her to resign.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Margaret Cain, two sisters, Anna nd Lucy, besides a large circle of relatives. Her father, P. J. Cain, preceded her in death April 21, 1918, as did also two brothers, John and Joseph, and one sister, Mary.
Margaret was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and held membership in the Rosary society and the order of Christian Mothers and Daughters.
The funeral was held in St. Joseph's church last Sunday forenoon, but the Requiem Mass was not read until the following morning with the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. Casket-bearers were: Meder Dinan, J. B. Donlon, Walter Bink, Stephen Donlon, George Cassutt and Leo Kelleher.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Merrill J. Curtis, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Roder, Minneapolis; James Neylan Jr., Oelwein; Chas. Neylan, Iowa City; Mrs. Chas. Bennington, Volga City; Mrs. J. G. Vance and daughter Mary Eileen, Dubuque; H. E. Kluemer and John Witlinger, Waukon; and Miss Mary Kelly, Rochester, Minn.
