Henry C. Howe passed away at the hospital in Elkader on Thursday, June 14th, 1917. He was born in Vermont in October, 1841.
For a great many years he has been a familiar figure in our midst and his was a wide acquaintance. After his health began to decline he left the farm and took up the insurance work, which he carried on for many years. His health finally forbade even that sort of labor.
For a long term of years, Mr. Howe was active in church work, accepting the office of Deacon and of Sunday School Superintendent in the Congregational church. His active years were identified with those of others who were striving for the upbuilding and the betterment of humanity.
He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Dwight Newcomb; his wife having preceded him to the other shore.
The funeral was held Saturday, at 1:30, in the Congregational church, Rev. H.B. Hall officiating. Mr. Howe selected the text for the sermon some years ago: "If a man die shall he live again?" His own belief was in the affirmative and his life was lived in accordance with that belief. A great many old neighbors and friends were assembled at the funeral. The interment was in the Monona cemetery.
