Elkader Register, Thur., 1 May 1924. Volga City Views column.

Harry Edwin Hold, eldest son of James W. and Rosa Staring Hold, was born at Ida Grove, Iowa, the 17th day of September, 1886, and departed this life the 26th day of April, 1924, at the farm home near Randalia, Iowa, at the age of 37 years, 7 months and 9 days.

Twenty-three years ago Harry came with his parents to Volga where he attended school and later assisted his father in the mill. He spent some time in South Dakota homesteading, but returned to Volga where for twelve years he was rural mail carrier on the Rural route of that place.

On the 21st day of March, 1916, he was united in marriage with Amy Wiesner, and to this union was born one son, Daneil Edwin.

Five years ago he resigned his position as rural carrier and bought a farm near Randalia which has since been his home.

On the 14th of November, 1922, he took to his bed and has been a helpless invalid ever since. Last summer he was taken to the hospital at Iowa City but they were unable to help him and he was brought home October 1st and has been slowly failing ever since.

He suffered greatly but was very patient and hopeful, planning for the good of his loved ones until the end.

Besides his wife and son he leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Georgia Westcott of Clermont and Elsie Fobes of Fayette, and one brother, Leslie of Oelwein, also other relatives and friends.

Harry was a good son and brother, a kind and loving husband and father, and was well liked by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church Monday at 2 o'clock, Rev. Jennesen of Maynard officiating. The Modern Woodman had charge of the funeral at the cemetery. Interment in Hill Crest cemetery.
