Frank Sebastian passed away at his home in Farmersburg Friday morning, Jan. 29, 1909, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 25 days. Deceased was born in Sellinger, near Trier, Germany, on May 4th, 1825. Here he grew to manhood, following the trade of shoemaker. In 1847 he enlisted as a soldier in the German Army, serving three years, after which he was honorably discharged.
In 1854 he emigrated to America, settling in Clayton county, Iowa. Here he spent most his life on a farm west of Farmersburg until a little over two years ago, when he moved to town, where he has since resided.
On April 26th, 1860, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane Gass. To this union were born seven children, one daughter preceding her father in death in 1884 at the age of twenty years. The six children living are Leonar Franklin, of Cresco, Iowa; Charles Edward, of Monona, Iowa; Emma Armintha Barton, of North McGregor, Ia.; Ella Elizabeth Gurtisen, of Monona, Iowa; Mary Adeline Reardon, of Wagner township, and Stella Jane Matthews, of Farmersburg, Iowa. He is also survived by his faithful companion, six grandchildren, and other relatives.
After a lingering illness he passed peacefully away. May he rest in peace. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church conducted by Rev. Gadow, of the German church. Interment in the Farmersburg cemetery.
