Elkader- Services for August Benschneider, 78, who died Tuesday, were held Thursday. Burial was in Mount Harmony cemetery, Elkport.

A former Elkport resident, August Benschneider, 79, was found dead in a bathtub Monday morning, Jan. 15, in the Julia Farrel home in Elkader where he roomed for the last two years. Sheriff Forrest Fischer and Deputy Coroner Cornelius Tuecke, Guttenberg, attributed death to a heart attack.

August Frederick Benschneider, son of August Benschneider and his wife Augusta Schkow, was born April 27, 1872 in Volga Township, Clayton county and died in Elkader Monday, Jan. 15, 1951 at the age of 78 years, eight months and 18 days.

Mr. Benschneider attended the rural school and his chosen trade was that of a carpenter, which he followed his entire life.

In the year 1899 he was united in marriage to Dolly Bowman of Osterdock. One one, Wayne, was born to them and survives his father.

Mr. Benschneider lived during his lifetime in Osterdock, Elkport, Guttenberg and for the past two years in Elkader. During the late years of his life he also spent time with his son in Dubuque. He was afflicted with a heart ailment for a number of years and death came as a result.

Besides his son, he is survived by one brother, Henry of Elkader; two sisters, Reka Thein of Elkport and Loise Enderes of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held at the Witt funeral home Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Mt. Harmony cemetery at Elkport, the Rev. Kitterer officiating.
