Mrs. Anna S. Valant died at 6:45 Sunday morning in the University Hospital in Iowa City after an illness of several weeks.
She had been rushed to the hospital early Friday morning when it was thought an operation might save her, but she died before surgery could be of aid.
Mrs. Valant was born May 12, 1875, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stack. At her death she was 63 years old.
She married John Valant, May 25, 1899, in Prairie du Chien, and they lived there until 1904, when they moved to Guttenberg. Mr. Valant died here in August of 1931.
Mrs. Valant was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and of St. Ann's Society.
Funeral rites were held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning in the church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rev. J. A. Dupont was in charge.
Mrs. Valant is survived by one son, Clifford; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Myers of Clayton, Miss Bessie Valant of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Francis J. Walsh of Chicago; three brothers, Frank Stack of Prairie du Chien, John Stack and Albert Stack, both of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Dunseath of Fox Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Frances Beran of Oak Park, Ill.
