Garnavillo, Iowa, Jan. 16 - Charles J. Thoma, 57, life-long resident and prominent businessman, of Garnavillo, died Saturday morning at a Prairie du Chien hospital where he had gone for medical treatment. He had been in poor health for some time previous to his death.

Mr. Thoma was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, November 22, 1874, where he received his early education in the public schools. For many years and up to the time of his death he was successfully engaged in business at Garnavillo. He was a member of the Lutheran church. He never married.

He is survived by one brother, Christ, of Garnavillo; three sisters, Mrs. Lois Schroeder, of Guttenberg, Mrs. Christ Schumacher and Mrs. Ben Tangeman.

Note: a similar obit appeared in the Jan 18th issue of the paper, except his surname was given as Thomas. The sexton records of the Garnavillo City cemetery indicate the correct surname is Thoma.
