HOFFMAN, GWEEN, CASSADY

McGregor, Ia. - Services were held here Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational Church for John Hoffman, former resident of McGregor and a veteran of World War I, who died in Chicago Sunday. Burial was in Moody Hill Cemetery. McGregor Legionnaires conducted the service at the grave.

He was born Dec. 5, 1893, at Hanford, N.D., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Hoffman. On July 6, 1918, he married Laura Gween, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gween, of McGregor. They lived in McGregor for a number of years. He was in the service in France in the First World War as a member of the 35th Division of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, five children, one grandson; one sister, Mrs. Emma Cassady, of Odenton, Md., and four brothers, Fred, of Fullerton, Md., and Carl, William, and Phillip, of Chicago.
