Sunday, June 6, (1920) At 2:30 PM Mrs. Margaret O'Brien Long A Resident Of Clayton County Passed To The Great Beyond At The Age Of 78 Years 11 Months And 22 Days. Cause Of Death Uremia, Bright's disease, Doctor S.C. Ainsworth- Volga City, Buried Cox Creek Scared Heart Cemetery
Having Received All The Rites Of Her Church From Her Good Pastor Rev Heatherington, She Passed Peacefully To Her Reward. Although In Failing Health For Sometime Her Last Illness, Was But Six Weeks Duration, During This Time And Through All Her Illness Her Children Gave Her The Most Loving Care And Attention.
Margaret Ivory Was Born In The County Of Kilkenny, Ireland, June 15th, 1841. She Was Left Motherless At The Age Of 2 Years, At The Age Of 16 Years (1857) In The Company Of Her Father & 3 Brothers (Patrick, Michael & Dan Emigrated To America. Her Brothers John and James Preceded Her to America in 1849. They Crossed The Atlantic Ocean In The Steamer Switzerland, A Sailing Vessel, And Were 6 Weeks & 3 Days In The Making Of The Voyage. On Reaching New York They Came Directly To The Home Of Her Brother (James Ivory) In Sperry TWP. She Was the Last of A Pioneer Family Consisting of Her Self & 5 Brothers.
In The Year Of 1867 She Was United In Marriage to Michael O'Brien of Sperry Township, & Settled on Mr. O'Brien's Farm Where She lived until the Family Was Grown To Manhood and Womanhood.
In 1912 Mrs. O'Brien Moved To Volga Leaving Her Son John In Charge Of the Old Home. (Her Husband Had Died On Mar 1 1881 Age 59 Years).
Mrs. O'Brien Was Preceded In Death By Her Husband, Her Daughter Kathryn (1877.Age 7 Months), Mary (1897 Age 24 Years) & Rose (1920 34 Years).
Left With the Care of Eight Small Children She Met Life's Troubles & threw The Darkest Hours Her Resignation Imparted Strength to Those around Her. She Was A Splendid Type of Christian and An Ideal Mother, Whose Children Were Her Jewels And who’s home Was Her Kingdom. Such Mothers Are A Living Blessing to Any Community and Their Real Worth is recorded In the Book of Life.
Mrs. O'Brien Is Survived By Her Three Sons James, Michael and John and Three Daughters, Mrs. Austie Thyne, Nellie At Home and Mrs. Earl Stalnaker All of Strawberry Point IA. & 16 Grandchildren. The Funeral Which Was Largely Attended Was Held At 10:00 Tuesday A.M. From Scared Heart Church, Volga. Rev Heatherington Officiating. His Sermon Was Touching And A Beautiful Tribute To The Life Of The Deceased Bringing Comfort And Consolation To The Bereaved Ones. The Hymn "Lead Kindly Light" By The Choir And Also "I Have A Mansion" By Hazel Krieg Were Very Fittingly Rendered.
Burial Took Place In The Scared Heart Cemetery, Cox Creek with Her Husband And Children. The Pall Bearers Were James Little, Will Henry, John McDermott, Pete Quinn, John Cunningham Mike Minnihan.
May Her Charitable Soul Rest In Peace.
