Arvin C. Elsbury

Arvin C. Elsbury, 88, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died on Sunday September 30, 2012, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., October 4, 2012, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. October 3, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Strawberry Point, with friends being able to also call an hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment was October 4, at Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Arvin C. Elsbury was born on February 26, 1924, in Manchester, the son of Fred and Gladys (Kelley) Elsbury. Arvin was raised and educated in the Manchester and Strawberry Point areas.

On December 20, 1952, Arvin was united in marriage to Dolores Wickham in Strawberry Point. Together they farmed near Strawberry Point, then moved to Farmersburg, and back to Strawberry Point and the Arlington area. Arvin retired to town in 1993.

Arvin enjoyed family gatherings, farming, gardening, fishing, and playing cards.

Survivors include his 5 children, Jerrald (Ruth) Elsbury of Strawberry Point, Marsha (Daniel) Novak of Atkins, Cheryl (Todd) Elsbury-Reiher of Shell Rock, Sharon Mohning of Cedar Rapids, and Connie (Dan Schachtner) Elsbury of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren, Kevin (Meagan) Elsbury, Tim Elsbury, Ryan Elsbury, Sara Elsbury, Justin Novak, Nick Novak, Kristi (fiancé, Ben Moquist) Novak, Katarina Reiher, Michael Reiher, Samuel Reiher, Johnathon Mohning, and Joseph Mohning; and 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Wickham of Strawberry Point, and Rose Elsbury of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Arvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, in 2008; one grandson, Joshua Mohning; his parents, Fred and Gladys Elsbury; 2 brothers, Leonard and Virgil Elsbury; and 4 sisters, Mabel Tapps, Lorraine Elsbury, Lavon Trumblee, and Gordetta Streicher.
