Mrs. Caroline Hultgren

Mrs. Caroline Hultgren died Wednesday, March 28, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Peck, in Marquette, following an illness of about 2 weeks. She had been a resident of this community for about seventy-five years.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the St. Paul’s Lutheran church in McGregor with the Rev. F Starke, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Caroline Wilhelmina Hultgren was born January 10,1867, in Sweden, a daughter of Ole and Christine Oleson. She was baptized in the Christian faith of the Lutheran church in infancy.

When three years old she came to this country with her parents to live on a farm on Swede Ridge. She was confirmed by Rev. J P Aurelius in the Swede Lutheran church and two years ago she joined St. Paul’s Lutheran church in McGregor.

On November 24, 1887 she was married to Andrew Hultgren in Chicago. They lived on a farm on Swede Ridge until the death of Mr. Hultgren, which occurred about ten years ago. Mrs. Hultgren has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Peck, since that time.

She is survived by four sons, Art of McGregor, John and Elmer of Garnavillo, and Ed of Evanston, Ill; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Peck of Marquette; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. One son, Carl, a veteran of World War I, died at the age of 26. Three grandsons are in the service. They are Willis Hultgren in the Navy, who has recently returned from service in the Pacific; Richard Hultgren in the Coast Guard in the Pacific and Dayton Peck, in the army in the Philippines.
