DETTMANN, Orlene (Bareis) Schultz --- 1921-1966

Mrs. Orlene Schultz Dettmann (Mrs. Julius Dettmann), daughter of William and Augusta (Kuhse) Bareis, was born in Clayton county, September 4, 1921. She was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, September 17, 1921. She received her education in Postville Community School, graduating from the high school there. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran, Postville, April 5, 1936. After high school, she worked in a grocery store in the Postville community.

She was married to Everett Schultz at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, November 5, 1941. Two daughters, Gloria and Judith, were born to this union. Mr. Schultz passed away June 10, 1950.

She was married to Julius E. Dettmann of January 20, 1956, in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple first lived in Postville, moving to Luana on August 1 of that same year. One son, Dennis, was born to this union.

Mrs. Dettmann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Luana; its Women of the Church group; and of the Friendship Circle Club.

Mrs. Dettmann has been ill for about two years. She passed away at Postville Community Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, June 21, about 3 p.m. She attained the age of 44 years, nine months and 17 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, Julius; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria (Allan) Zittergruen of Elkader; Judith Anne of Cedar Rapids; one son, Dennis at home; and one brother, Arbe Bareis of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Maurine.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, by the Rev. Luther A. Meyer. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
