About 1:00 o’clock Monday morning, July 23rd, 1906, Frank Hofer passed away in the sleep of death. For the past two years he has been a great sufferer from a cancer, and for the most part patiently awaiting the time when he would be released.
Mr. Hofer as born in Boardman twp. Aug 24rd, 1858. In 1885, he was united in marriage with Miss Addie Meyer and soon after moved to Elkader, where he has since resided. Beside the devoted wife, who has so patiently cared for him during his sickness in a manner few can know, he leaves two children, Louisa and Raymond and one brother Ed, of Elkader.
Frank, in health, was a most devoted husband and father, and the writer, having been his neighbor for twenty years, can truthfully say no more neighborly neighbor ever lived. He would endeavor to accommodate a friend even against his own interest. We deeply regret his departure but could not wish him to remain to suffer.
The funeral was held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph’s church. Rev. J. F. Reilly, officiating. The service was largely attended by sympathizing friends of the family.
Before his death Mr. Hofer had made all the arrangements for his funeral selecting the following as his pall bearers. Henry Tujetsch, D. E. Gleason, A. Ehrhard, Dr. W. J. Jeffers, John Bahr, and John Losch.
Among those in attendance from aboard were Mrs. Wm. Alitz, of Wheelerwood, Iowa, John Fehr, Kent, Ill., Ehrhard Dole of Pearl City, Ill.
