-23 Apr 1860 - A Serenade - The Germania Brass Band of this place complimented the editor of this paper with a Serenade on Tues. evening. That we were pleasantly surprised, and that we felt ourselves high complimented, may have been observed by those present, when we attempted to stammer out a few words of thanks. Words failed to express our feelings. We again tender them our thanks, and our good wishes for their prosperity, that they may win all the laurels which their art can bestow on mortals. The band now consists of eight persons, of which Prof. Wm. Hill is the leader. The names of the other gentlemen who compose the Band are A. Dietrich, D. Fritz, J. H. Kuenzel, A. Tangeman, F. Schoellerman, M. Hagensick, and Daniel E. Meyer. The instruments now owned by the company are valued at $160., they are all new and kept handsomely. The band has not been organized more than two months, and yet they are competent to play for Balls and parties very near as well as those that have been organized for years. This is doing well. We don’t think any town in the State can boast of the like.
