Old Settler Passes Away
Last Thursday, October 28, occurred the death of John F.A. Marcks at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.L. Schoning, on west 1st street. About two weeks or so ago Mr. Marcks was hurt by having a wagon loaded with sand pass over his arm, cutting a bad gash. Blood poison set in causing death.
Mr. Marcks was born in Germany November 22, 1840. On May 16, 1867, in Germany, he was united in marriage to Friederika Schwichtenberg, and to this union six children were born, three living, Charley and William and Mrs. Anna Schoning.
Mr. and Mrs. Marcks came to America in 1868, settling in Watertown, Wisconsin, where they remained until 1870 when they moved to Riverton township, this county, and settled on a farm that has been their home ever since.
The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Schoning on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lemke, pastor of the German M.E. church, assisted by Rev. C.S. Carroll of the Free Baptist church, the interment being in Riverside cemetery.
