September 25, 1923-July 26, 1997

Alvin Besaw, 73, Everly, died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at the Care Center in Primghar.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at the United Methodist Church, Everly, with the Rev. Shumaine McAlpine officiating.

Casket bearers; Brian Besay, Terry Hintz, DeWayne Mamen, Kenny Besaw, David Besaw and Kerry Ross.

Honorary casket bearers; Herb Besaw, Mike Hintz and Jessie Ross.

Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly, with Warner Funeral Home, Spencer, in charge of arrangements.

Alvin "Jack" H. Besaw, the son of Alvin and Bertha May (Munn) Besaw, was born September 25, 1923, in Mankato, Minnesota. As a young child, he and his family moved to Graettinger and it was there he received his education.

On February 4, 1943, he entered the military and served in the US Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Occupation Medal in Germany, European African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World WarII Victory Ribbon.

He married Dorothy Keller and then Delores Nissen.

On August 5, 1963, he married Bertha Averill in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in the Emmetsburg and Storm Lake areas. They lived for 11 years in Terril where he worked for the City of Terrill from 1976 to 1978. They then moved to Everly where he worked for the City of Everly from 1978 to 1987.

He was a member of the American Legion in Terril and them in Everly.

Mr. Besaw wa preceded in death by his parents, five sons, a sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Kathy McKay and her husband, David, of Cedar Rapids, Brenda Leth and her husband, Brad, of Hartley; Sheila Besaaw and her finance, Tom Grubish, of Claremont, Minnesota; one son, Jamie of Spencer;10 grandchildren; four sisters, Loretta Pegum of Graettinger; Marge Lockwood and her husband, Allwin, of Lone Rock; Goodie Haynes and her husband, Frank, of Fort Scott, Kansas; JoAnn Phillips of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one brother, Guy Besaw and his wife, Viola, of Primghar; as well as other relatives and friends.
