Old Settler Found Dead
Elijah C. Greene, who lived with his son, Elmer, south of Greeneville, was found dead in his bed Monday morning about eleven o'clock.
Mr. Greene has been an invalid for several years, suffering from paralysis and has generally kept to his bed.
Monday morning he ate a hearty breakfast and was apparently as well as usual, after eating his breakfast, he laid down in his bed, and his son's daughter went into the room a few minutes before eleven o'clock and found him dead.
The coroner was called and a jury impaneled and they found that death resulted from heart failure, caused by paralysis.
Mr. Greene was seventy-four years old the day he died, and has lived in Clay county since 1870. He taught school for a number of years and was a minister in the Friends church. He leaves one son and two daughters, three brothers and one sister. One of his brothers being A. W. Greene, the well-known insurance man of Spencer.
The funeral occurs today at eleven o'clock Greeneville and the body will be laid to rest in Riverside cemetery in Spencer.
