Opal Lucille Henkel Frerichs, was born November 30, 1931 to Ralph and Margaret Henkel in Spencer, Iowa. She received her early education and graduated from the Spencer High School in 1949.

Following her graduation, she moved to LeMars, Iowa to work where she met and married Richard Frerichs. To this union 4 children were born: Richard, Joan, Terry and Tim.

Opal worked at the LeMars Hospital until she moved back to Spencer in 1977. She worked at Superior Manufacturing, Spencer Liquor Store, Longhouse Residence and Super Valu.

After retiring she continued to provide in home care and also worked at Human Services in Clay County for a short time.

Opal passed away on July 9, 2009 at the Palo Alto Hospital in Emmetsburg at the age of 77.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Anna Marie, son Richard and great granddaughter, Jentry Anne.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan Cate and special friend Ernie Pooler of Ruthven, IA; 2 sons and their wives: Terry and Becky of Sioux Falls, SD and Tim and Marie of Alabama; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Regina Harleman of Spencer and Violet McClaire of California; other relatives and friends.
