Ruth Margaret Hoffman, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Halbur) Stevens, was born March 23, 1927 in Templeton, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Templeton, IA, where she received her education at Sacred Heart School. She later received her CNA in Nurses Training at Carroll Hospital.

Ruth married Bernard Hoffman on November 23, 1949 at the Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. After their marriage, they lived in the Carroll, Iowa area until 1949, when they moved to the Webb & Marathon, Iowa. In 1986, they retired and moved to Spencer. Throughout her life, she worked as a CNA at the hospital in Carroll and later at the Laurens and Sioux Rapids, Iowa nursing homes. She also enjoyed raising her family, crocheting, quilting, reading, volunteering, tending her flower gardens and having coffee with friends. Most important of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where she was a member of the Mission Group and the Altar Society.

She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 90. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard in 1996; a daughter, Linda and two brothers: Loren and Alvin Stevens.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Monica (Gary) Johannsen of Spencer; Joyce (Lee) Whitcanack of Sheldon, IA and Larry (Maxine) Hoffman of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters: Wilma Sowers of Highlands Ranch, CO and Elma Cormack of Ft. Dodge, IA; sister-in-laws: Margaret Hupp and Kathleen Hoffman both of Carroll; other relatives and friends.
